FRIENDS of OUR PUNJABI NEIGHBORS: We as individuals and families living in Whatcom County, desire very much to form meaningful relationships with our Punjabi neighbors. For way too long - our dominant culture (white European descendants) have ignored, disregarded and at times cast racist actions toward Punjabi Sikhs. We as members of Friends of Our Punjabi Neighbors are actively seeking to welcome, honor and learn from our east Indian friends.

Truck driver runs over Sikh man after racist abuse
Police have arrested a 55-year-old New York man on charges he called a Sikh man a terrorist and mowed him down with his pickup truck.
This continues to be a real problem for the Sikh community living in the USA. Just because of turban and beard, many Sikh men are completely mis-identified as Muslim, Jihadists, etc. There is no relation between these two groups other than the historical slaughter by the Islamic Moguls who killed and terrorized the Sikhs back in their formative years.
How horribly ironic it is that with this history past, now 500-years later, the Sikhs are wrongly characterized as just the opposite in who they are, even today, even here in the USA. This needs to change.
