It is most impressive to see the national Medal of Valor being awarded to Lt. Brian Murphy and Officer Savan Lenda of the Oak Creek Police Department for their service on August 5, 2012. They performed heroically in stopping a man who just killed 6 Sikhs at a Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
We are so thankful that Lt. Murphy survived being shot 6 times as he sought to stop the killer.
FRIENDS of OUR PUNJABI NEIGHBORS: We as individuals and families living in Whatcom County, desire very much to form meaningful relationships with our Punjabi neighbors. For way too long - our dominant culture (white European descendants) have ignored, disregarded and at times cast racist actions toward Punjabi Sikhs. We as members of Friends of Our Punjabi Neighbors are actively seeking to welcome, honor and learn from our east Indian friends.

Sikh student at Whatcom Community College excels after escaping prejudice
Here is a good story in how this young man has dwelt with much uncertainty, prejudice. And it is a good story for how our own Whatcom community has accepted him as one of us. And it is great to see him excel in his college classes. Congratulations Sukhdip!
